Abstract:
Experiments were conducted in order to investigate the static bearing strength of the mechanically fastened composite joints, involving interference-fit joint with blind pumping bolt and clearance-fit joint with high lock bolt.Interference-fits with different interferences and clearance-fit were considered.During static tensile testing, the deformation of the bearing hole was measured by means of extensometer.According to ASTM D 5961 standard test method, the ultimate bearing strength and the 2% offset bearing strength were obtained.Experimental results show that suitable interference can increase the ultimate bearing strength in comparison with the clearance-fit case, and excessive interference can decrease the ultimate bearing strength. For the composite(T700/9916) and laying studied in this paper, when the interference is 0.5%,the ultimate bearing strength is increased by 1.51%,but when the interference is 3%,the ultimate bearing strength is decreased by 1.85%,comparing with the clearance-fit joints.
