Abstract:
Carbon fiber (CF)/monomer casting (MC) nylon 6 composites were prepared by in situ anionic polymerization and vacuum assisted resin infusion molding (VARI) process. The structure, thermal properties, mechanical properties and morphologies of the composites were characterized by FTIR, DSC, universal testing machine, SEM and metallographic microscope and the effects of mold temperatures on the properties of the composites were discussed. Results showed the tensile strength of CF/MC nylon 6 composites prepared at 160℃ reached 197 MPa and the flexural strength reached 295 MPa; that the thermal properties of MC nylon 6 components in the composites were similar to those of commercial nylon 6; that the CF was uniformly distributed in the matrix and fully impregnated by MC nylon 6.
