Laser Cladding Copper-base in-situ Composite Coating and Its Wear Resistance

  • An in-situ composite coating, coded as LCC-Cu, was successfully fabricated on ZL104 Al alloy surface by laser cladding process on base of liquid separation characteristics of copper alloy systems. The matrix of the in-situ composite LCC-Cu, was supersaturated (Cu, Ni) with dendritic or dendritecellular microstructure, and the spherical reinforced phases were composed of granular and fringy substructure containing laves phase, intermetals and solid solutes. The results of the dry sliding friction and wear test at ambient atmosphere showed that the wear resistance of the LCC-Cu composite is slightly better than that of QZ5 cast iron and far better than that of ZL104 Al alloy.
