Experimental Study on WC/Cu Composites Produced by Explosive Powder Compaction

  • WC/Cu powder is fabricated in a planet ball milling and the WC particle reinforced Cu-matrix composite is formed through explosive compaction of above WC/Cu powder in a directacting explosive composive device.Experimental results show that the dispersion-strengthening occurs in the composite during the explosive compaction.The composite is tough and rigid with a density up to 95%~97%.It can be confirmed that WC/Cu powder can be compacted to form particle reinforced composite by means of common explosive compaction method.
