Fatigue Crack Propagation of Copper Alloy ZCuAl8Mn14Fe3Ni2 for Propeller

  • Using standard compact tension CT specimen and improved version of the CT specimen,fatigue crack propagation of copper alloy ZCuAl8Mn14Fe3Ni2 for propeller was investigated in air,tap-water and 3.5% sodium chloride aqueous solution.The results manifested that the fatigue crack propagation rates of the test material are roughly equal both in air and in tap-water,indicating that little or no corrosive effect of tap-water on the material.When stress intensity factor range varies in 17 MPa·m1/2 to 32 MPa·m1/2,fatigue crack propagation rate is quicker significantly in 3.5% sodium chloride aqueous solution than that in air,indicating that the test material has been corroded simultaneously,but the corrosion is gradually weakening.as the increase of the stress intensity range when it is over 32MPa·m1/2.The results for the test material would provide a reference for engineering application.
