Abstract
The effects of weakly acidic remover( p H = 5),weakly alkaline remover( p H = 8) and alkaline remover( p H = 10)on removal of paint on 7 series aluminium alloys were investigated. The aluminium alloy was coated with phosphide primer, epoxy primer and polyurethane topcoat. The results showed that the removal time was shorter for weakly acidic remover than those for weakly alkaline and alkaline removers. Weakly alkaline remover functioned better in removing the paint. The immersion tests indicated that weakly acidic remover resulted in the local pitting corrosion of aluminium alloy, weakly alkaline remover merely caused corrosion of aluminium alloy, and alkaline remover resulted in the overall corrosion of aluminium alloy.
