Analysis on Bending Cracking of 2205 Stainless Steel Plate after Intergranular Corrosion Experiment

  • The cracking appeared when 2205 stainless steel plate was bent after the intergranular corrosion experiment. To figure out the reason of cracking, chemical composition analysis, metallographic analysis, SEM analysis, and TEM analysis have been performed on the cracked specimen. The results show that the bending cracking of 2205 stainless steel plate was caused by the degradation of toughness of the materials owing to the brittle phase, M23C6, formed during the sensitizing treatment because of the excessive amount of C.
