Experimental Study on Equivalency of Two Crack Arrest Test Methods

Temperature-gradient double tension test and ESSO test were carried out on four ship steels to evaluate the equivalency of these two test methods. Crack arrest toughness K_ca and crack arrest temperature were both measured.Results indicate that within test error range, these two test methods showed acceptable equivalency. Semi-quantitative analysis was conducted based on energy conservation law.
