Experimental Study on Equivalency of Two Crack Arrest Test Methods

  • Temperature-gradient double tension test and ESSO test were carried out on four ship steels to evaluate the equivalency of these two test methods. Crack arrest toughness Kca and crack arrest temperature were both measured.Results indicate that within test error range, these two test methods showed acceptable equivalency. Semi-quantitative analysis was conducted based on energy conservation law.
