The Influences of Flame Retardant on Flame Resistances and Bonding Properties of Bisphenol A Epoxy Resin

  • The influences of three flame retardants on the flame resistances and bonding properties of bisphenol A epoxy resin were studied, and the flame retardants were organic phosphorus flame retardant NP1060-A, organic nitrogen flame retardant YK-04, and organic halogenate flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A. The results showed that with the increasing of filling content of flame retardant, the limited oxygen index (LOI) value generally increased, the initial decomposition temperature shifted toward the low temperature, the char yield increased at 800 ℃, and the bonding strength reduced. The organic phosphorus flame retardant NP1060-A had contributed to better flame resistances and adhesion properties than the other two flame retardants. The appropriate filling content was 40%, and under appropriate filling content, LOI and bonding strength were 32.5% and 13.4 MPa respectively, and the char yield was 11.64% at 800 ℃.
