Experimental Studies on Explosive Welding of Magnesium Alloy(AZ31)/Aluminum Alloy(7A52) Composite Joints

  • Magnesium alloy(AZ31) and Aluminum alloy(7A52) were bonded by different explosive welding technologies. The interface configuration and micro-hardness was analyzed. The wave parameters were measured by optical microscope. The results show that explosive welding between AZ31/7A52 is difficult owing to brittleness of AZ31 with recombination rate <10%,the interface is a regular sine wave shape with wave length about 2.20mm and the wave amplitude about 0.40mm.The wave length and amplitude depend on explosive density or thickness. The bonding region is hardened in explosive processing.AZ31/7A52 joint is considerably sensitive to explosive technological parameters, and the explosive welding window was narrow.
